Woodrow "Woody" Joseph Williamson, 69, of El Paso, passed away May 28, 2015 at OSF Hospice House, Peoria, after a valiant fight with cancer.
Woody was born July 7, 1945 in Madison, Wisconsin to Louise Friend. He married Lynda Gibson on June 14, 1991 in one of his favorite places, Las Vegas.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda, El Paso; four children, Todd Williamson, Saybrook; Christy (Tyler) Toepke, Shirley; Lindsey (Alex) Slover, Danvers; and Danny Williamson, Springfield; his brother, Mike (Melanie) Armes, Davenport, IA; and five beautiful granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Woody was a proud member of the Laborers Local 362, Bloomington, and retired in 2005 after close to 30 years working for JG Stewart Contractors.
Woody's personality was larger than life, and you'd be hard pressed to find someone that met him that didn't love him immediately. He had a mischievous sense of humor, and beautiful blue eyes that sparkled when he laughed.
He liked watching NASCAR, the Minnesota Vikings and the Cubs, (but really only when they were beating the Cardinals). He loved dancing, fishing, trips to Las Vegas, fudgesicles, (aka, "fudgies"), competitive games of volleyball with the family, ice cold Miller Lite, and although he never wanted to admit it, his two canine sidekicks, Lucky and Brutus. He could beat anyone at a game of horseshoes. He really, really hated spiders.
Woody was a loving and devoted husband, who frequently referred to his wife as "the love of his life." He had a fierce love for his entire family, and was extremely proud of his kids and grandbabies.
His family is already missing his smile, his hugs, and his voice singing along to the "good old country songs" by the likes of Patsy Cline and Hank Williams. He lived a great life, and will be remembered with many smiles.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, June 2 at 11 am at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, El Paso. Pastor Roger Pryor will officiate. Burial will be at the North Danvers Mennonite Church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held at the VFW in El Paso following the burial.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the OSF Hospice House for their loving care of Woody and his family during this very difficult time.
