William Robert Murrell, 78, of Springfield, passed away peacefully with his children around him from a long battle with illness at 9:28 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at The Villas in Sherman, IL.
He born February 22, 1941, in Towanda to John and Pauline (Brady) Murrell. He married Marilyn Moore on December 21, 1963, in Edina, MO. She survives in Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Thomas Murrell, James Murrell, Donald Murrell and John Murrell, Jr.; sisters Catherine Dodson and Jean Marple, and nieces Debbie Murrell Fisher and Patty Murrell Costa.
He is survived by his wife, sons Rodney (Anita) Murrell of Hollister, MO, Timothy (Tami) Murrell of Fort Lauderdale, FL, daughters Jeanette Garey of Normal, Janet Fultz of El Paso, Tina Murrell of Springfield, and Kimberly (Dwayne) Vance of El Paso, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 33 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and -nephews, brother Jerry (Pam) Murrell of Estero, FL, and sister Jeannie (Mark) Lane of McLean, sisters-in-law, Jackie Murrell, Frances Murrell and Ruth Murrell of El Paso.
Robert worked at Nussbaum in Normal, retiring after 28 years. Robert enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, relaxing, fishing and vacationing with his family yearly in the Lake of the Ozarks, MO.
A Celebration of Life will be held by the family on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at South Pointe Park, El Paso. Cremation will be accorded. Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso will be assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
