Vernon L. "Junior" Elston, Jr., 72, of El Paso, passed away at 6:50 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2020 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, IL.
He was born February 2, 1948 in Peoria, IL to Vernon, Sr. and Phyllis Edenburn Elston. He married Kathy Shepherd on August 29, 1980 in El Paso. She died on July 26, 2007 in Bloomington, IL. He later married Carol Gibbs on July 19, 2008. She survives.
Surviving are three sons, David Elston of Minonk, Nathan (Carrie) Elston of Virginia, IL, Kevin (Bev) Elston of El Paso; two brothers, Richard (Shelley) Elston of Maricopa, AZ, Terry (Coleen) Elston of Bellevue; one sister Debbie (Bob) Hasty of Hanna City; and eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Sandy and Barb
Vernon worked at Caterpillar for 30 years before retiring. He enjoyed woodworking, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren. He was the proud owner of a 1957 Chevy he built from the ground up.
A memorial visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso. Covid-19 protocol will be observed throughout the evening. Cremation will be accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
