Robert John Witzig, 66, of Gridley, IL went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 while fishing in Canada.
He was born on July 12, 1948 in Gridley a son of Edward D. and Dorothy Schlipf Witzig.
Surviving is his wife of 8 ½ years, Terri (Gramm) Witzig; one brother, Bill (Connie) Witzig of Indianapolis, IN; one sister, Joyce (Bernie) Ferneau of Gridley, IL; one brother-in-law, Ed Fritz of Morton, IL; and a special aunt and uncle, Marjorie and Elmer Witzig. Bob was a very spiritual, fun loving uncle who loved all his nieces and nephews: Doug Fritz, Denise Weerts, Michelle Phillips, Phillip Fritz, Lynette Schick, Katie Rasmussen, David Witzig, Brian Witzig, Rob Witzig, Jonathan Ferneau, Jacob Ferneau, Ben Yergler, Andy Yergler, Will Yergler, Melissa Hangartner, Kristin Fehr, Brandon Kaeb, Seth Kaeb, Rachel Kaeb, Natalie Steiner, Rebecca Steiner, Amanda Steiner, Mya Gramm, Travis Gramm, Madelyn Merkle, Hudson Merkle, Cosette Merkle, and Andre Merkle.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sally Fritz.
Bob was a graduate of Gridley High School and the University of Illinois. He served his country in the US Army from 1970-1971 in Mannheim, Germany. Bob worked for Fritz and Gudeman as a concrete finisher for 46 years. He was a member of the Gridley Apostolic Christian Church where he was a volunteer usher for many years.
At age 33 Bob surrendered his life to the Lord Jesus. At age 58, he married Terri. He often said that these were the two most important decisions he made. He was a kind, loving, patient man who enjoyed hard work, golf, fishing, and encouraging his loved ones and friends with humor.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 13 at the Gridley Apostolic Christian Church. Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 2-4 and 5-7 pm at the Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso and from 9-9:45 am on Saturday before the service at the church. Burial will be in Gridley Cemetery.
