Richard Allen McQuitty, 65, of El Paso formerly of Pontiac, passed away at 10:45 p.m. Monday, August 17, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria.
He was born April 1, 1950 in Mattoon, Illinois to Marguerite May Strickland Lawrence (later Moore) and Leonard Andrew Lawrence and soon adopted by Allen Lavone and Pauline Frances Keel McQuitty of Pontiac, Illinois. In the 1980's he found and was reunited with his birth family.
He was an active player in the Pontiac Indians football team, expert diesel mechanic and a U.S. Air Force Vietnam War veteran with experience working on the engines of the B-52 bombers used in the conflict.
Rick loved his many animals throughout life, a ride on his motorcycles, and outings on his fishing boat. His other hobbies included target shooting, martial arts, darts, bowling and movie enthusiasm. His family and friends knew him to be a generous, helpful man with a warm and giving heart. He was a charter member of the Chief City Shooters Club, a volunteer in the El Paso Boy Scouts, and a proud member of the El Paso VFW Post #6026 where he served as Senior Vice Commander. He especially enjoyed the comradery he found there.
Rick is survived by one son, Joseph Charles Koerner, one sister Susan Pritchard and brothers Harold (Cathy) Moore and Michael (Sandy) Moore. He was preceded in death by his parents, his birth mother Marguerite May Lawrence Moore and his stepfather Howard "Pops" Moore.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded.
