Melba Hangartner
Pekin- Melba Hangartner, 82, of Pekin, IL, passed away at
12:15 pm February 26, 2014, at her home with her loving family by
her side.
She was born on February 1, 1932 in Roanoke to Elmer and
Marie Sutter Blunier. She married Jerry J. Hangartner on July 5,
1953 in El Paso, IL. He survives.
Also surviving are her four children, Jeff (Teresa)
Hangartner of Pekin; Jay (Julie) Hangartner of Celina, TX; Janese
Hangartner of Pekin; Jon (Kim) Hangartner of Peoria; two brothers,
Wilmer Blunier of Roanoke; Robert Blunier of Florida; six sisters,
Erma Moser; Mardell Bowald; Rachel (Rich) Leman all of Roanoke;
Mary Lou (Hank) Grimm of Morton; Gladys (Dick) Haefli of Peoria;
Dorothy (Charles) Leman of Farmington Hills, MI; six grandchildren
and eleven great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers,
Harlow, Edward, and Gaylord Blunier; and four sisters, Mildred
Hoerr; Ann Sauder; Merna Koch; Phyllis Schacherbauer.
Melba had a serving and compassionate heart. She worked as
a teacher assistant at Schramm School for the handicapped in Pekin.
She also volunteered at the Pekin Hospital.
She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed china
painting. She had a contagious smile that always made you feel
loved. She will be missed by those whose lives she had touched.
She was a member of the Tremont Apostolic Christian Church
where funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday March 3.
Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1-4
pm on Sunday at the Tremont Apostolic Christian Church fellowship
hall and from 9-9:45 am on Monday before services at the church.
There will be a 2pm graveside service for burial on Monday at the
Roanoke Township Cemetery. Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in
Roanoke is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
