Lester Martin
El Paso- Lester Martin, 88, of Eureka, formerly of El Paso, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at 6:15 pm Saturday August 23, 2014 in El Paso.
He was born on January 10, 1926 in Metamora, IL to Andrew and Martha Gudeman Martin. He married Ruth Schmidgall on January 25, 1953 in Morton. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Donna (Tim) Carr; Alan (Sharon) Martin both of El Paso; Larry (Debbie) Martin of Flanagan; Becki (Dean) Martin of Eureka; two brothers, Nelson (Mary Ellen) Martin of Eureka; Harvey (Sharon) Martin of Metamora; three sisters, Verna Hartter; Helen Wiegand both of Eureka; Loretta Rumbold of Princeville; 19 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Ryan Carr; one brother, Lewis Martin; and two sisters, Thelma Martin and Mabel Belsley.
An Army veteran, Lester served his country as a non combatant during the Korean War. He then farmed in the El Paso area until he retired.
Lester was a member of the Eureka Apostolic Christian Church where funeral services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday August 27. Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Tuesday at the Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso and from 9-9:45 am on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Roanoke.
