Gridley - Larry E. Finck, 74, of Gridley went home to be with the Lord at 5:59 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at OSF HealthCare Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac, Illinois.
His funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in El Paso with Rev. Jonathan Boehne officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Saturday and one hour prior to the service on Sunday, both at the church. Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso is assisting the family with arrangements.
Interment with Military Honors will be at Gridley Cemetery in Gridley, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran Pre-School or Gridley Emergency Medical Services.
Larry was born on April 25, 1944 in Streator, a son to George E. and Mabel E. Ruestman Finck. He married Lynda Sue Terven on August 12, 1967 in El Paso. She preceded him in death on May 19, 2015.
Surviving are children, Brian (Jennifer) Finck, O'Fallon; Kelli (Mark) Peterson, Pueblo West, Colorado; Tara Finck, Normal; Brent (Christine) Finck, Chicago; grandchildren, Jessica, Valerie, and Nathan Finck, Averi and Kaylin Peterson, Marlowe and Georgia Finck, and one on the way; sisters, Joyce (Laverne) Hinthorne, El Paso, Linda Moe, Lakeville, Minnesota; brother, Rick (Cheryl) Finck, Hinckley and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert.
He graduated from Danvers High School in 1962 and later received a degree in Business Administration from Illinois State University.
Larry proudly served in the United States Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was employed at GTE Verizon for 32 years as a computer programer. He later was a rural mail carrier.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder, President of Congregation, and a Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Gridley school board, El Paso-Gridley Foundation Board, Gridley Community Club-Chairman of Gridley Community Sale, Woodford County Thrivent Board, Waldo Township Clerk and Gridley Golden Banner 4-H Leader. He served on the McLean County Fair board, 4-H board and McLean County P.A.L.S.
Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, he will be greatly missed. His generous spirit continued even after death as an organ donor.
