El Paso-Kenneth L. Johnson, 68, of El Paso, IL passed away at his home at 4:15 pm on Saturday, June 18, 2016.
He was born on January 31, 1948 in Alton, IL a son of Kenneth O. and Rosalee N. Early Johnson. He married Gail Beetler on June 25, 1983 in Peoria, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Kenneth (Rebecca) Johnson, II of Jacksonville, IL; Laura Johnson of El Paso, IL; Bethany Johnson of Quincy, IL; Matthew Johnson, Nathan Johnson both of Elk Grove Village, IL; his mother, Rosalee Johnson of Alton, IL; one brother, Daniel (Mary) Johnson of Littleton, CO; two sisters, Janette Johnson of Alton, IL; Priscilla Carpenter; and two grandchildren, Kenneth III and George.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Ken was a school teacher and taught for 34 years beginning at Fairbury School District, Alton School District, and James B. Conant High School where he retired from in 2005. He also coached football and track for 40 years with some of that time at El Paso-Gridley High School. He belonged to the Illinois Coaches Association and National Association for Biology Teachers.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in El Paso where memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 23, 2016. Fr. John Steffen will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Cremation rites will be accorded and burial of remains will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso is assisting the family with arrangements.
