John H. Tammen, 98 of Gridley passed away at 9:15 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, rural Chenoa.
John was born on February 11, 1920 in Fulda, Minnesota a son of Henry and Margaret Schmidt Tammen. He married Jeanne Kingdon on September 26, 1948 in El Paso. She died October 24, 2008.
Survivors include his son, Jim (Nancy) Tammen, Marion; a daughter, Karen (Paul) Morin, St. Peters, MO; six grandchildren, Kimberly (Josh) Jackson, Cary Decker, Lindsey (Joseph) Mansfield, Kelly (Denny) Summerfield, Nathan Tammen and Kyle Morin; six great grandchildren, Hannah Summerfield, Parker Mansfield, Dylan Summerfield, Zachary Summerfield, Ryder Mansfield and Jackson Decker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, eight sisters and five brothers.
John was a life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in El Paso, where his funeral will be at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. Pastor Jonathan Boehne will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery, El Paso. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Ruestman Harris Funeral Home is assisting his family with arrangements.
He was a long time farmer in the Gridley area. John proudly served with the United States Army during WW II where he received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
Memorial contributions in his honor may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund or charity of donor's choice.
