Chenoa - Elwood E. Bean, 82, of Meadows, IL passed away Nov 19, 2016 at 6:42 am at Meadows Mennonite Home.
His funeral will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso with the Rev. Jane Roeschley officiating. Visitation will be from 10-12 before the service. Burial will be at the Chenoa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Foundation or the Meadows Mennonite Home.
He was born Feb 21, 1934 in Lacon to Clifford and Ethel (Wertz) Bean. On August 23, 1984 he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Zehr Plesha. He was first married to Mary Cleary.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, ex-wife, father, mother, sister and brother.
He is survived by his daughter Julianne (Robert) Schielein of Chillicothe and his son Stephen Bean of Kinston, NC and Dorothy's children Brenda (Scott) Uphoff, Marcia (Douglas) Kridner, both of El Paso and Michael (Carolyn) Plesha of Bloomington; grandchildren Scott, Craig, Elizabeth, Stefanie, Kelly, Stephen, 7 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; Dorothy's grandchildren Spring, Summer, Kristy, Edward, Andrew and Autumn; her 10 great-grandchildren; one aunt, many nieces and nephews, and cousins.
He was a graduate of Chenoa High School. He served in the Army and was stationed in Korea. He retired from Caterpillar, Inc. and also worked at the Chenoa IGA for many years. He was an avid Cubs fan. He enjoyed trains, drawing and painting. He and his wife attended the Meadows Mennonite Church and volunteered at the Meadows Home for many years. We are grateful for the loving care the staff of the Meadows Mennonite Home provided him.
