Christopher T. Thurmon, 56, of Gridley, passed away at 1:57
p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014 at St. James-John W Albrecht Medical
Center in Pontiac, IL.
He was born January 10, 1958 in Jacksonville, IL to Thomas and
Donna (Wilson) Thurmon.
Chris leaves behind his mother, Donna Thurmon and his grandmother,
Edith Wilson both of whom he lived with and cared for at their
Gridley residence. Also surviving are his three younger brothers,
Kyle of Louisiana, Jeff of Oklahoma, and Daniel of Rockford, IL;
numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, his business partner and good
friends, Eric and Marcie Kaufman and his faithful canine companion,
his westie Hank.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas, his paternal
grandparents, Earl and Adeline Thurmon and his maternal
grandfather, Lyle Wilson.
Chris was a 1976 graduate of Gridley High School. He attended
Eureka College in the fall of 1976. He was an outstanding athlete,
excelling in football, basketball, track and baseball. He was a
vital starting member of the Gridley Redskins 1975-76 basketball
team that went 27-1 and won 4 championships that year. He was an
avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He played slow
pitch softball for the Rats for many years.
Chris spent 17 years in Fort Worth Texas. A man of numerous
talents, Chris held various positions in his life including
contractor, filter service representative, window cleaner and
general manager. He was currently the co-owner\operator of Sweet
Treat Supply.
Chris was a member of the Gridley Community Club, a libertarian
and a fierce defender of freedom, personal responsibility and the
Constitution.
Chris was well loved by all his friends and family.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 8, 2014 at
First United Church of Gridley. Rev. Andy Huette will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Ruestman-Harris
Funeral Home in ElPaso. Burial will be in Hinthorn Cemetery in Lake
Bloomington.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gridley Emergency
Medical Squad.
