Bloomington - Carmen M. Cicciu, 72
of Bloomington, passed away at 10:10 p.m. on Saturday, February 22,
2014 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington after an
extended illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be
held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Holy Trinity
Catholic Church, Bloomington with Monsignor Doug Hennessy
officiating. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery in
Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. with a
prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at
Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude
Children's Research Hospital or to the Humane Society of Central
Illinois.
Carmen was born on January 13, 1942
in Bloomington, a daughter of Melvin and Maxine (Sargeant)
Lartz. She married Dominick Gary Cicciu on November 27, 1971
in Bloomington
He survives in
Bloomington.
Also surviving are three children,
Marisa (Eric) Owens of Bloomington, Renee (Daniel) Drye of
Crest Hill, IL, and Marcus (Teresa)
Cicciu of Normal; five grandchildren, Matthew Owens Peyton Owens,
Gabriella Owens, Christian Drye and Reagan Drye.
She was preceded in death by her
parents and a sister, Tami Jarecki.
Carmen was a parishioner of Holy
Trinity Catholic Church in Bloomington.
She graduated from University High
School in Normal and Illinois Wesleyan University in 1965 with a
degree in Education. She went on to teach in District 87 for
38 years, most notably at Oakland Elementary School. Rarely
could Carmen venture out around Bloomington-Normal without
encountering a former student who invariably thanked her for her
caring work as an educator.
Carmen was an avid golfer, movie
watcher and book enthusiast. She was very fond of her
dogs and loved to plant flowers and do gardening. In recent
years, one of Carmen's most favorite activities was spoiling her
grandchildren with toys and clothes.
