Betty Jean Widmer, 81, formerly of Gridley, passed away on Sunday, September 10th, 2017 in South Carolina.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Cremation has been accorded.
Betty was born to Wilbur and Laura Meador November of 1935. She grew up in Central Illinois, attending Gridley community schools, and graduated from Illinois State University with a B.S. in Music Education. She taught music at Chenoa Elementary School for two years.
Betty was united in marriage to Harry W. Widmer on June 21, 1959 at the Congregational Church in Gridley, IL and became a great homemaker and mother of two children, while teaching piano lessons in her home for twenty-five years.
She was a long-time member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) where early on she was director of the Junior choir, and also sang in the adult choir for nearly 50 years. She was a member of the National TTT Society and the singing group The New Notes. She enjoyed anything musical, but nothing more than her family, friends, and home.
Betty is survived by Harry, her husband of 58 years, daughter Kelly (husband Joel), son Kurt (wife Heather) and three beloved grandchildren: Ashley, Kyle and Anna Widmer. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Joe, Paul and Byron.
