Minonk- Betty J. Sample, 88, of Minonk, IL went to meet her maker at 12:40 pm on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Heartland Healthcare in Normal, IL after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
She was born on May 21, 1927 in Pana, IL a daughter of Clarence and Edna Schaffnit Strang. She married James D. Sample on March 11, 1955 in Bloomington, IL. He passed away on December 25, 2007.
Betty was a loving mother to one son, Jimmie Sample of Marion, IN; two daughters, Sally (Joe) Fox of Longwood, FL; Kristy (Mike) Hill of Bloomington, IL; one brother, Louis Strang of Pekin, IL; three grandchildren, Brett Fox of Orlando, FL; Staci (Chris) Stemley of Longwood, FL; Derek (Danielle) Sample of Bloomington, IL; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Harriet.
Betty and her husband owned and operated Standard Oil Distributor.
She loved her grandchildren and was a deeply devoted wife. Betty and Jim had a great love of dancing where ever and whenever they found a chance to do it. Betty was also an avid golfer and held championship titles at the three clubs she belonged to. Our world was a much better place with her love, compassion, and her warm infectious smile. She will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 15 at the Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Minonk. Rev. Wes Ooms will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm before the service at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded.
