Esther Smith

El Paso-Esther L. Wadsworth Smith, 95, of El Paso went to be with her Lord on July 30, 2017 at 6:50 pm at Heritage Health in El Paso.

She was born on October 5, 1921 to Louis and Elizabeth Hodgson Wadsworth on a farm south of El Paso near the community where she resided the rest of her life. She married William Freeman Smith on October 16, 1942 in El Paso. He passed away on March 22, 2007.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and two brothers.

Surviving are one daughter, Sally J. (Don) Kingdon of El Paso; one son, Bruce A. (Therese) Smith of Noblesville, IN; one sister, Doris (Gene) Heller of El Paso; six grandchildren, Tyler (Monica) Kingdon of Westfield, IN; Ben (Heather) Kingdon of El Paso; Landre` Kingdon of St. Louis, MO; Nathan (Kelsey) Smith of Fishers, IN; Brent (Amanda) Smith of Zionsville, IN; Evan Smith of New York, NY; and eight great-grandchildren who called her Gigi, Makayla, Raegan, Mason, Lauren, Liam, Drew Kingdon; Alexandra and Brayden Smith. She taught them daily how to live a life of love and respect for each other and God.

Esther was a member of the First Baptist Church in El Paso. This church was built in 1911 by her father and grandfather. She was baptized in this church and an active member all her life. She loved music and played the piano for Sunday School and a gospel quartet and also sang in the church choir for 75 years. Esther always lived out her love for the Lord in her daily life.

She worked hard her whole life in the business world until the age of 85 at which time she finally decided to retire. She then found joy in sewing, gardening, and socialization with her many friends and family.

In her final stretch of life, she was blessed to receive loving care from many special people including: Julie Bozarth, Kelly Peck, Connie Armstrong, the OSF Hospice Staff, and the Heritage Manor El Paso staff. She felt loved and blessed while she waited to be taken to her final home in Heaven.

Funeral services will be held at her church on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be from 9-11 am before the services at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in El Paso followed by a Celebration of Life luncheon at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso.
