Sparland

Thomas William Frank, age 92, of Sparland, died at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday January 29, 2012 at his residence.  He was born on March 6, 1919 in Peoria to the late William and Flora (Trompeter) Frank.  He Married Margaret Madison on December 24, 1942 at LaPrairie United Presbyterian Church; she survives.

Also surviving are two children, Mary (John) Smith, of Elk Grove, IL, and James (Gail) Frank, of Springfield, IL; one foster daughter, Margaret (John) Schussele, of Mapleton, IL; ten grandchildren, Gary (Jennifer) Frank, of Athens, IL, Holly (William) Zaborowski, of Lombard, IL, Brett Willey, of Peoria, Emily (Brent) Crebo, of Germantown Hills, Christopher (Elizabeth) Frank, of Lowpoint, Jennifer Smith, of Springfield, Melissa (Steve) Harry, of Aurora, IL, Gregg (Marguerite) Smith, of CT, Geoff (Kathy) Smith, of Peoria, and Michael (Brenda) Smith, of Peoria; 19 great-grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Milton, Marion, Frederick, and Robert; and also his grandfather, Henry Frank; who came from Bavaria, Germany in 1856 and settled in Sparland.

Tom attended Sparland High School, class of 1939.  He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal and served in the U. S. Army Infantry in Europe.  After his military service, he joined his father, William Frank, and his brother, Marion, and his wife Margaret in opening Frank's Hardware; and offered plumbing and heating services in Sparland, IL.

Tom was a member and served as an elder of the LaPrairie United Presbyterian Church, clerk of the Sparland Village Board, trustee of Steuben Township, clerk of the Sparland School Board, and served on the Marshall-Putnam County Fair Board.  He was also a member of the Bureau County and National Angus Society.

He drove a school bus for the Sparland Unit District #3 for many years.  He raised Shetland ponies and registered Angus Cattle.  Tom had a love for his country, the town of Sparland, his church, his family, and country music.  Tom was the last surviving Frank living in Sparland.

Services will be held at the LaPrairie United Presbyterian Church in LaPrairie, IL on Wednesday February 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.; with a viewing one hour prior. Bob Murphy will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday January 31, 2012 at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon.     My deepest sympathy to the Frank, Smith, and all of Thomas Franks's extended family. I can only imagine the wonderful accomplishments Thomas made in his 92 years here on earth.     My deepest sympathy to the frank's family, many years of relaitionship between family and busness brought happiness to us both. I was very fortunate to have him and Margaret as friends and customer for many many years, I wish I could attend the ceremony but at this time i can not, because im poor health myself.
