Robert E. Duncan
Secor- Robert E. Duncan, 88, of Secor, IL passed away at 12:16
am on Friday, June 1, 2012 at Advocate Eureka Hospital in Eureka,
IL. He was born on November 4, 1923 in Eureka, IL a son of Ivan and
Della Barney Duncan. He married Audrey Mossberger, and later Helen
Orth who passed away on March 5, 2000. He then married Evelyn
Edwards on August 14, 2003 in Secor, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Royal Duncan of Peoria, IL; two
step-daughters, Sandra Barry of Washington, IL; Patsy (Lynn) Webber
of Bloomington, IL; two step-sons, Tom (Shirley) Edwards, Bill
Edwards both of El Paso, IL; one sister, Lois Meredith of Eureka,
IL; eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one twin brother, Don
Duncan; and one sister, Eloise Schomburg.
Robert attended Eureka High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran
serving in WW II with the Army Air Corps and was a member of the
Eureka American Legion Post #466.
He worked as a postmaster in Eureka, IL from 1947-1959. He later
worked as the bus manager for the Eureka School District #140 until
his retirement.
He also belonged to the Secor United Methodist Church, Eureka
Sportsmen's Club, and Fairlakes Golf Course in Secor.
Robert was a die hard Cubs fan. He will always be remembered for
helping start the Little League baseball teams in Eureka and for
him and his brother Don's outstanding golfing and athleticism. He
was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at
5:30p.m at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka. Rev.
Kenneth Sloan-Couch will officiate. Visitation will be held on
Tuesday, June 5, 2012 from 3:30-5:30 pm at the funeral home.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Burial of cremains will follow
services on Tuesday at Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka where
military rites will be accorded at the grave.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post
#466 in Eureka or Secor United Methodist Church. Online condolences
