Roanoke- Mary M. Steinen, 84, of Roanoke, IL passed away at 11:55 am on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Roanoke where she was a resident.

She was born on January 24, 1927 in Hancok, MI a daughter of Joseph and Clara Payn Condon. She married James "Jim" Steinen on June 12, 1948 in Hancock, MI. He survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert (Sue) Steinen of Abingdon, MD; Thomas (Kathy) Steinen of Little Rock, AR; two daughters, Barbara (Chris) Kolber of Wadsworth, IL; Karen (Rohn) Peterson of Roanoke, IL; brothers and sister-in-laws Tom (Dorothy) Condon of Toivola, MI; Jack (Maureen) Condon of Hancock, MI; ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren with one due in February 2012; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mary and Jim started their married life in Hancock, MI while Jim attended Michigan Tech University on the GI bill. She was a supportive wife to her beloved husband, Jim, always ready to move where his jobs took them (Springfield, IL; Chicago, IL; Pittsburgh, PA; Cape Elizabeth, ME) and when they retired to sunny Florida (New Port Richey and Iverness).

She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing bridge, crocheting, and taking long walks. As her Alzheimer's got worse, she depended more and more on the loving care of her husband. They moved to Roanoke, IL in October of 2009 where she entered the nursing home for more care. Jim saw her daily, loving her to the very end.
