Lavada M. Cook, 80, of Washburn passed away at 2:42 a.m. on Friday February 10, 2012 in the emergency room at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.  She was born on July 18, 1931 in Bell Plain Township to the late Anthony and Emma (Schmellen) Schock.  She married Dewey Cook in Peoria in 1955; he preceded her in death on November 17, 1992.

She is survived by her son, Daryl Cook, of Washburn; and her nephew, Lee and his wife, Josie Gill, of Princeville.  She was preceded in death by one brother.

Lavada gave much to her community.  She was a member of the Marshall County Historical Society, the Lacon Women's Club, and the Marshall County Republican Women's Club.  Lavada was also a former Rotarian, a Cub Scout Den Mother, and a Marshall County Courthouse bailiff. She worked at Speigels Department Store, in Peoria, at Hyster, in Peoria, and was a Real Estate Agent for Illinois Central Realty in East Peoria.

She was a loving mother and friend and will be missed by many.

Services will be held on Tuesday February 14, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Lacon.  Father Tom Mizeur will officiate.  Burial will follow the services at the Lacon Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Monday February 13, 2012 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Lenz Memorial Home.  Memorials may be made to the Marshall County Historical Society.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.lenzmemorialhome.com

    Daryl, I'm so sorry about your mom. You probably know, I lost my mom, Ruby, 5 years ago on February 8 and my dad, Dude, 3 years ago on January 25. Losing parents is not easy. It's been the hardest thing I've ever done. Some of my earliest memories involve your mom and dad. I wish I had seen your mom in recent years. My prayers will be with you. Sherry (Evans) Hargett
