James E. Heneger, 89, of Lacon passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Friday February 3, 2012 at Proctor Hospital. He was born on May 24, 1922 in LaPrairie Township to the late George and Ada (Moulter) Heneger.  He married Jessie M. Porter on December 14, 1946 in Chillicothe; she preceded him in death on January 3, 2000.

He is survived by stepson Melvin (Sandy) Porter, of Petersburg, IL; nine grandchildren; James (Heather) White, of Washington, IL, and Brian (Jill) White, of Huntington Beach, CA, Mark (Wendy) Porter, Avaston, IL, Mike (Carol) Porter, Bourbonais, IL, Marty (Minakay) Porter, Springfield, IL, Matt (Crystal) Porter, Springfield, IL, Delvin Gladitch, Washburn, IL, Paula (Mike) Weiss, Chillicothe, IL, John (Debbie) Pasdick, Washburn, IL; 21 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marsha White; one step-daughter, Janet Ely; two brothers, Buford and Forest; and three sisters, Dorothy, Bertha, and Irma.

Jim was a sergeant in the U. S. Army during World War II, he served for five years.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sparland.  Jim was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 183 of Peoria.  He was a member and a past commander of the Walter Guede American Legion Post # 593 in Lacon, and a life member of the V. F. W. Post # 4999 in Chillicothe.

Jim was a loving father, grandfather and fried and will be missed by many.  He loved to fish and garden and he was well known for his legendary tomatoes.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday February 8, 2012 at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon; with a viewing one hour prior.  Pastor Elaine Bolen of the First Baptist Church of Sparland will officiate.  Burial will follow the services at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Edelstein where military rites will be accorded by the Walter Guede American Legion Post # 593.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.lenzmemorialhome.com.
