Herb Aeschliman
Roanoke- Herbert V. Aeschliman, 89, of Roanoke, passed away at
11:20 pm on Saturday June 30, 2012 at the Apostolic Christian Home
of Roanoke.
He was born on February 28, 1923 in Bloomington, IL to Charles
and Meta Rohde Aeschliman. He married Leona deFreese on August 17,
1927 in Benson, IL.
Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Leona of Roanoke; one son,
John (Jean) Aeschliman of Benson; one daughter, Arlene (Rodney)
Johnson of Roanoke; two brothers, Everett (Pearl) Aeschliman of
Minonk; Ernest Aeschliman of Roanoke; two sisters, Shirley (Dean)
Barth of Minonk, Betty Lou Smith of Flanagan; one brother-in-law,
Richard Durre of Flanagan; two grandchildren, Debbie (Jeff) Lane of
Grand Ridge, IL; Jeff (Jennifer) Johnson of Eureka, IL; and five
great grandchildren, Kristen, Kora, Chase Lane; Emma and Kaitlyn
Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, David;
and one sister, Agnes Durre.
An Army Air Corp Veteran, Herbert served his country during
WWII. He was a member of the Benson American Legion Post # 454.
Herb had worked for Prairie Dehydrating Company in Roanoke. He
then worked in the area as a carpenter and a farmer
Herb and Leona loved to travel and they had visited all 50
states. They enjoyed wintering in Arizona and Florida. Herb also
loved to play pool and golf.
He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Benson where he
had served on the church council and was Sunday School
superintendent.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday July 3, 2012
at the St. Peter Lutheran Church. The Rev. William Hecht will
officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Monday July 2, at
Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke and from 9-10 am on
Tuesday before the services at the church. Burial will be in the
church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter Lutheran
Church, the Parkinson's Foundation or the Roanoke Apostolic
