Floyd W. Sherry, Jr.
Eureka- Floyd W. Sherry, Jr., 80, of Eureka, IL passed away at
6:45 pm on Monday, January 16, 2012 at Maple Lawn Homes in Eureka.
He was born on December 12, 1931 in Lafayette, IN a son of Floyd W.
, Sr. and Winnie Irene Franks Sherry. He married Virginia Sutter on
October 9, 1951 in Eureka, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are four children, Sylvia (Mark) Phillips of
Addison, IL; Diana Sherry of Edina, MN; Edward Sherry of San
Antonio, TX; James (Bang Lang Do) Sherry of Dubuque, IA; eight
grandchildren, Christian Spencer Phillips; Jason (Lynne Krayer)
Luke; Lloyd Wesley Luke; Jesse Luke; Virginia Luke; Anica, Zander,
and Zuri Sherry; one sister, Suzanne (Andrew) Ensing of Hernando,
FL; and one brother-in-law, Quentin (Chuck) Lorenzen of Winter
Haven, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty
Jane Lorenzen.
Floyd graduated from Eureka High School in 1949 and Purdue
University with a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics
(1957) and a master's degree in education (1960). He served in the
U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Floyd retired as Eureka
Branch Manager and Assistant Vice President of Citizens Savings
Bank in 1994 and started an appraisal business at that time.
Floyd was a member of the Eureka Christian Church, where he was
a former trustee and a former deacon. He served on the Maple Lawn
Homes Board of Directors and was a member of the Eureka American
Legion Post #466, Eureka VFW, the American Contract Bridge League,
the Eureka Hospital Advisory Council, the Eureka Dance Club, and
the Eureka Rotary where he was former president.
Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
There will be a private burial service at a later date at Shiloh
Cemetery near Hopedale, IL and a musical memorial service for
relatives and friends also at a later date. Memorials may be made
to his church, Maple Lawn Homes, or Advocate Hospice. Online
