Roanoke - Doris M. Martino, 84, of Roanoke, IL, passed away at 1:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke, surrounded by her family.

 

She was born on Feb. 4, 1928, in Roanoke, to Gino and Lucy DeGiovanni Santi. She married Robert "Red" Martino on June 21, 1947. He died December 2, 2006.

 

Doris is survived by her three daughters, Jeannine (Fred) DuBois of Roscoe, IL, Bobbie Emlen and Angie (Lee) Hinrichs, both of Roanoke; her son Marty (Natalie) of Marcellus, NY; two sisters, Teresa (Joe) Martino, and Judy (Joe) Rogge, both of Roanoke; 8 grandchildren, Kim (Greg) Schneider of Roanoke, Brenda (Joe) Schneider of Benson, IL, Nick (Linda) Emlen of Vaughan, Ontario, Canada, Aimee (Brian Klosa) DuBois of St. Peter, MN, Robb (Maria) Hinrichs of Rancho Cucumonga, CA, Aaron DuBois of Kansas City, MO, John (Lauren) Martino of New Carrollton, MD, and Matt Martino of Alston, MA; ten great grandchildren, Rachel, Abby, and Sadie Schneider, Megan and Molly Klosa, Anthony and Zofia Emlen, Sophia Hinrichs, and Maurice and Arianna Murillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Gene Santi ; and her son Dominick.

 

Doris, a lifelong resident of Roanoke, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, bowling, cheering on the Cubs, spending time with her grandchildren, and loving her cats Mickey and Minnie. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.

 

Funeral mass will be held on at 11:00 am on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Roanoke. Monsignor Charles Beebe will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9-11 am on Friday at the church prior to the services. A rosary service will be conducted at 8:45 am on Friday at the church. Burial will follow the services at the Roanoke Township Cemetery. Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke is in charge of the arrangements.

I felt very privileged to be present at such a big event in her life....her going to be reunited with Uncle Red, Nicky, Grandma Lucy, Grandpa Gino, and Uncle Genie on Valentine's Day in Heaven!
