Roanoke-Donald L. Brown, 81, of Roanoke, IL was gently gathered into Jesus' arms and taken home at 7:57 pm on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at his residence in Roanoke, IL.

 

He was born on June 22, 1930 in Salem, IN a son of Bruce Wesley and Hilda Virginia Akers Brown. He married Helen Farney on November 28, 1954 in Roanoke, IL. She survives. Also surviving are five daughters, Laurel (Mike) Santi of Columbia, MO; Susan Rocke, of Eureka, IL; Marsha (Tom) Durrand of Roanoke, IL; Karen (Gordon) Presley of Carlock, IL; Diane (Kim) Steffen of Hampshire , IL; one son, Daniel (Beth) Brown of Eagle, ID; one sister, Patsy J. Hangartner of Jacksonville, IL; one brother, James (Judy) Brown of Topeka, IL; twenty-one grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

 

Donald worked at Caterpillar, Inc. In the parts department in Morton for 25 years before his retirement in 1992.

 

An Army veteran, he served his country during the Korean War and was a past 50 year member of the Roanoke American Legion.

 

He was a member of Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church where funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, December 16, 2011. Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4-7 pm at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke and from 9-9:45 am at the church before the service. Burial will be in the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Cemetery.
