Smith
El Paso- Dan L. Smith, 64, of El Paso, Illinois formerly of
Milford, IL passed away at 7:14 am on Monday, May 21, 2012 at his
home surrounded by his family after a year long battle with
cancer.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on
Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Eastview Christian Church 1500 Airport
Road in Normal, IL. Rev. Jason Smith will
officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from
6-8 pm at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso. Cremation
rites will be accorded. Burial of cremains will be at a
later date in Sugar Creek Cemetery in Stockland, IL. Military
rites will be accorded at the church after the memorial
service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a
charity of the donor's
choice.
He was born on December 16, 1947 in Watseka, IL a son
of Charles L. "Bud" and Ruth L. Davis Smith. He married
Judith Figg on October 21, 1967 in Iroquois, IL. She
survives.
Also surviving are one son, Wesley Smith of
Bartonville, IL; one daughter, Jennifer Smith of South Africa; one
brother, Kelly (Cheryl) Smith of Milford, IL; six nieces and
nephews, three great nieces and nephews, and many great
friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He graduated from Milford High School in 1966 and
from Forestry Tech School in 1967. He served with the United
States Navy in active duty from 1967-1971.
Dan worked as a tool dye maker in Milford and then
for Mitsubishi Motors from 1989 until his
retirement.
He was a member of the Eastview Christian Church, Boy
Scouts of America, Boy Scouts of America Back Bay Gang, was a
lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, Wabash Valley
Gun Collectors, National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, El Paso
American Legion, and the Secor Sportsmen's Club.
