Lydia Arvetta "Betty" Lewellyn Eureka-Lydia "Betty" Lewellyn, 90, formerly of Eureka and Elmwood, passed away at 12:30 a.m. on Monday, May 25, 2009 at the Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria where she was a resident. She was born on March 10, 1919 in rural Woodford County a daughter of Merlin F. and Marie A. Moser McCloud. She married James E. Lewellyn on April 23, 1943 in Shelbyville, IL. He passed away on October 2, 1980. Surviving are two daughters, Janet Marie (Thomas) Millspaugh of Salisbury, NC; Deborah Arvetta Lewellyn of Peoria, IL; one grandson, James Ian McCloud Lewellyn, her "sugar honey"; and one brother, Richard Cecil (Merla) McCloud of Pekin, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son James Lee Lewellyn; three brothers Raymond, Delbert, Virgil "Mick" McCloud; and one sister, Doris Janssen. Betty started her teaching career in a one room school house. She taught second grade in Elmwood for 26 years and taught a total of 30 years before her retirement in 1978. She was a member of the Eureka Christian Church since her childhood, where she was active for many years, the Order of Eastern Star, and attended the Elmwood Presbyterian Church while she lived in Elmwood. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Eureka Christian Church. Rev. Fred Dorisse will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka and one hour before services at her church. Burial will be in Olio Township Cemetery.
