Gladys L. Rippel Secor- Gladys L. Rippel, 99, of Roanoke, IL formerly of Secor, IL passed away at 7:30 am on Monday, September 12, 2011 at the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Home where she had been a resident. She was born on July 9, 1912 in Secor, IL a daughter of Charles and Emma Miller Hunzinger. She married Carl Rippel on December 14, 1934 in Secor, IL. He passed away on March 1, 1996. Surviving are one daughter, Carol Sauder and one son-in-law Jim Sauder, who was like a son to her, of Roanoke, IL; six grandchildren, Lori (Jerry) Daugherty of Eureka, IL; Cindy (Al) Bardeleben of Decatur, IL; Jay (Michelle) Sauder of Roanoke, IL; Jayme (Howard) Eigsti of Eureka, IL; Jan (Pat) Donlan of Astoria, IL; Dawn Rippel of Creve Couer, IL; one sister-in-law Doris Remmers; nineteen great grandchildren, five great great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Norval; and one son, Duane. Gladys enjoyed reading and crocheting. She always made home made hand towels to give away as gifts to others. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and just a pleasant person who always had a happy attitude. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Secor where she was active in the Ladies Aid. Her love of Christ was the source of her loving and serving heart as she worked on the family farm, served at St. John’s Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid, and cared for numerous relatives in their illnesses. The family would like to give a special thank you to the care givers at the nursing home who became like family to Gladys. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Pastors Scott Adle and Virgil Kelm will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 5-8 pm at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke and from 9-10 am on Thursday before the service at the church. Burial will be in Secor Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Home.
