Gene B. Schertz El Paso- Gene B. Schertz, 83, of El Paso, passed away at 9:19 am on Saturday October 8, 2011 at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal. He was born on July 19, 1928 a son of Owen and Mary (Baringer) Schertz. After graduating high school Gene attended The University of Illinois in Urbana and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science. Gene married Hilda Heike on December 30, 1956 in Wenona and she survives. Also surviving are , two sons: David Schertz of Arvada, CO, and Erich Schertz of El Paso. Also surviving is one brother: Duane Schertz of Houston,TX and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter Karen, and two brothers Glenn, and Robert Schertz. Gene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in El Paso, The El Paso Farmer’s Club, and was the director of The Eureka Saddle Club. He was a lifetime farmer in El Paso, after graduation he worked in the livestock business showing livestock all around the country. He truly enjoyed working around animals his whole life. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2011at 11 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in El Paso with Pastor Jonathan Boehne officiating. Visitation will be held from 10-11 am at the church prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in El Paso. Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Gene's name.
